Loss Of Pitch On Schottel STT2 Bow Thruster

Whilst working for a Schottel agent, our lead propulsion engineer was requested by a customer to attend and investigate an issue with their Schottel Transverse Thruster – STT2, where they were experiencing complete loss of pitch on their bow thruster.

The ship required dry docking and once the oil was drained and OD cover removed, it was apparent that the 2 main oil feed hoses had been rubbing against the bearing housing, causing the hoses to burst.

On discussion with the OEM, they were advised that there was a modification kit that was made up of new hoses that come from the top of the unit down to behind the bearing housing, then a hard fixed pipe section on stealth clamps that would be bolted to the bearing housing to prevent further friction.

If you are experiencing problems with the Schottel Transverse Thruster model 2, 3, or 4 please get in touch for advice and help.
