Niigata Propulsion was founded in 1910 in Japan. They developed their first own designed diesel engine in 1919, which put them on the map. This was the first industrial diesel engine in Japan. From this defining moment, they have gone on to create several plants around the world, and, in the early 2000s, they began to develop engines for marine vessels.
Marine Vessels are Niigata’s main focus. They provide a range of products for marine ships under the umbrella headings of engines and systems. In terms of the main engine, Niigata Propulsions offers a dual-fuel engine, both AHX and HX series medium speed diesel engines, plus low and high-speed diesel engines. Niigata Propulsions also provides an auxiliary diesel engine for the marine generator sets if none of this suffices. If paired – if both a main engine and generator are used – Niigata promises efficient and economical power. The two marine systems they offer are the selective catalytic reduction system (SCR) and the hybrid tug marine system.
Niigata is best known for their Z-Peller Azimuth Thruster, of which they are the only manufacturer under the original design. Due to this, it is in high demand and highly reputed.
